Personal info

Cherise is very passionate about horses and it is this love that led her to first study craniosacral therapy.  Helping horses who had become lame with the techniques of CST which she had seen be so effective for the human mind, body connection is what began her journey.  Her intention was to be able to help out riders as well who had been injured but also as a means to treat the horse and rider as a team.  She continues to ride recreationally and still enjoys working with equines outside the office.

Cherise has a background in film and TV in the Vancouver area where she spent some time working as a performer and also training in stunts.  Today a lot of her clients are very prominent performers in the stunt world.  She also was a competitive dragon boat racer for three years in which she competed at on a team that was rated in the top ten in North America.

Techniques:

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy (CST) stems from osteopathy.  It is a gentle hands on technique used to remedy distortions of structure and function within the skull, spine, membranes and connective tissue throughout the body.  Cerebrospinal fluid surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. By tuning into the production and absorption of this fluid, a practitioner is able to locate restrictions and areas of trauma.  A light touch of approximately 5 grams (the weight of a nickel) is used to release restrictions through out the body.  Resulting in improvements in function of the central nervous system, circulation, organs, immune system and over all wellness.

Conditions Cranial Sacral Therapy can help:

Migraines and Headaches

Chronic Neck and Back Pain

Motor-Coordination Impairments

Colic/ Infantile disorders

Autism / ADD / ADHD

Central Nervous System Disorders

Orthopedic Problems

Traumatic Brain/Spinal Cord Injuries

Scoliosis

Learning Disabilities

Chronic Fatigue

Emotional Difficulties

Stress and Tension-Related Disorders

Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders

Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)

Neurovascular or Immune Disorders

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-Surgical Dysfunction

Somato Emotional Release

SER is an aspect of CST in which tissue release uncovers emotional or stress related trauma in the body.  Trauma enters the body in a straight line from point of impact and by realigning the tissue is a way that the initial trauma entered the body the tissue along with trapped emotional aspects from the incident can be released.

Reiki

In Japanese Reiki means “Universal life energy”.  It is a form of hands on or off energy healing.  It brings about rebalancing on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.  It can be used to manage physical pain, aid the body in releasing illness or emotional trauma.

Chakra Balancing

Typically preformed during alongside either CST or Reiki.  Chakra balancing can deliver great benefits in balancing the energy centers of the body and boost wellness physically emotionally and spiritually.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can it help with headaches and dizziness?

Contrary to popular belief the bones of the skull do not fuse into adulthood, instead they move.  In fact each bone has a path of movement and rhythm.  By evaluating this movement and mobilizing the bones of the skull a practitioner can recover this natural rhythm within the skull that is quite commonly at the source of many headaches, dizziness and vertigo.

How long do the results last?

While everyone is different and results will vary, typically CST starts a process of unraveling layers of tissue trauma.  Unless the stress causing the dysfunction is active and ongoing, the tendency is to see constant improvement.  Often older layers of dysfunction are uncovered and different issues surface as the body gradually shifts into a more balanced state.

How many treatments will I need?

This too will vary from one person to the next.  While I have seen some conditions resolve in one session, it may take weekly sessions over the course of several months for a satisfactory level of health to be achieved by another.  Although clinical symptoms may disappear over time many clients choose to have CST sessions regularly every 3-6 weeks to maintain wellness.

Are there any contraindications for craniosacral therapy?

CST produces a slight increase of pressure within the craniosacral system from the cerebrospinal fluid.  While this increase is equivalent at most to the added pressure of getting up too quickly we like to err on the side of caution and suggest people with acute stroke (meaning they are still hospitalized) or those with an acute or unstable aneurysm to not undergo sessions until they have been given the go ahead by their physician or are no longer acute.  Due to the very light touch of CST it is very safe for people who have broken bones and can help you get a head start on releasing soft tissue and realigning bones after an accident.

Are there any contraindications for Reiki?

No there are no contraindications for energy work such as reiki or chakra balancing.  Energy work is extremely beneficial in any condition and you can feel safe knowing it can do no harm.

How can CST help with emotional issues?

When a physical trauma impacts the body, there is often an emotional element tied in with it.  Therefore when the tissue is released so is the emotion that was stored in the tissue.  These emotions can even have an effect on our personality so it is quite common to have a greater feeling of peace and calmness after the release of such events.  Another way emotion can be released is if an emotional event or ongoing stress is being stored in an area of the body either as an isolated incident or over time. CST can help the body reprogram the way it deals with stress to minimize the effects over time.  Although CST/SER can have an emotional benefit, it is still tissue work and does not take the place of psychiatric help should it be required.

Is it safe if you are pregnant?

Absolutely, it is safe.  In fact it can help deal with those low back pains and swollen feet.  It  is great for relaxing the body and preparing it for childbirth as well as helping the bones spread to allow more room for the baby.  It is a good idea to get a few treatments before going into labor to release the pelvic area and allow for it to widen to make way for a natural childbirth .  It is also very helpful for baby as the birth process can be very traumatic whether it is natural or a c-section delivery.

Is it safe for all ages?

Yes.  It is very gentle so it is safe for anyone from newborns, children of all ages and right through to the more elderly.  In fact we highly recommend sessions for infants under one year of age as a way to prevent developmental issues down the road that may stem from birth trauma.
